Knowing What Causes Probation

04 March 2014 by Laddie F. Hutar

A worker is put on probation when he is newly hired, promoted, or if his job performance has not been up to standard. It is usually for a specified short period of time during which the employee is given closer than usual supervision and normally doesn’t last more than 30 days.late_again

A new employee’s probation is to allow him to learn his job and become familiar with company policy. For the same reasons, a newly promoted worker is given time to learn his new job. When an employee is put on probation because his work and/or work habits are not satisfactory, probation gives him an opportunity to improve and become the valuable employee his is capable of being.

Questions for Reflection:
Have you ever been on probation? What was the cause?
What are some of the reasons employees may be put on probation at your company?
If an employee is put on probation, how would that change their behavior?
